Loggers who depend on the woods to support their livelihood, landowners and a representative from the Texas Forest Service will meet today to discuss the Bear Creek Fire in Cass and Marion counties in East Texas.

The Bear Creek fire is said to be 100% contained as of Thursday night, but the work of ensuring the wildfire remains contained and does not flare up again is far from over.

Official assessments made by volunteers from the American Red Cross, in aid of Marion and Cass Counties, have determined the number of homes lost as a result of the Bear Creek Fire to be approximately 66 primary residences.

According to authorities, just before 5:00 pm Sunday, Bruce Wade White, 43, of Avinger was traveling westbound on FM 729, when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a Ford Excursion, driven by 46-year-old Richard Brent Gustafson of Jefferson.
